About RMJA Architects
Contemporary Architecture Rooted in Sri Lanka
RMJA is an architectural and design practice based in Colombo, Sri Lanka, founded in 2009 by Architect Rajith Jayawardana.
Our practice provides architectural design, interior design, engineering coordination, project management and cost consultancy for residential, hospitality, commercial, industrial and institutional projects.
We believe architecture should respond to its surroundings rather than simply occupy a site.
Every project begins with an understanding of the land, climate, context, client and purpose. These factors inform the architectural response, from the overall planning and orientation of the building to materials, landscape, natural light and ventilation.
Our work combines contemporary design with an understanding of Sri Lanka's tropical environment and architectural character.
Our Approach
Understand the Site
Every site has its own opportunities and limitations. We study orientation, access, topography, views, vegetation, climate, surrounding development and applicable planning requirements before developing a design direction.
Understand the Client
Architecture is ultimately about people. We take time to understand how our clients live, work, operate their businesses and use their spaces.
Develop the Right Concept
We translate the opportunities of the site and the client's requirements into a clear architectural concept.
Coordinate the Design
Architecture must work technically as well as visually. Structural, electrical, plumbing, mechanical and other specialist requirements are integrated into the design process.
Deliver With Purpose
Our objective is to create architecture that is beautiful, functional, practical to construct and appropriate to its long-term use.
